Week 23 - Final Interview Edits, Spa Days & a Very Good Bye-to-Sweden Weekend

Week 23 had that strange feeling of being both super productive and very close to the finish line. The office was getting quieter and quieter, the last interview edits were finally coming together, and at the same time I was slowly starting to feel that strange mix of excitement and sadness that comes with knowing your time somewhere is almost up. Still, it was a very good week — full of work, little adventures, and some really lovely ways to celebrate the final stretch.
Monday was all about finally polishing and finishing the last of the interviews. Officially, only Malin, Emma, and Sándor were left at the office, which made everything feel a little quieter and a lot more focused. After all the editing, subtitles, and little adjustments from the last few weeks, getting that last interview finished felt like a huge relief. One of those tiny work victories that somehow makes your whole day better.
Tuesday was dedicated to uploading all the videos — with and without subtitles — for the Communications Department to use soon. After that, I got started on polishing the transcripts for the written interviews and double-checked with students to get pictures from their stays. It was one of those days where a lot of small tasks had to line up properly, but I actually enjoy that kind of work when it all starts falling into place.
Wednesday was Malin’s last day working before her summer vacation, even though she was
working from home, so there was a little bit of a “last prep before holiday” feeling in the air. At the same time, I was preparing for my own solo time with the international emails, keeping an eye on incoming mail, proofreading Signe’s written interview, and adding photos. The day felt like a quiet little transition into the next phase of summer — both for her and for me.
Thursday continued in the same rhythm: international emails, my own emails, transcribing Ilias’s video, making it look nice, proofreading, asking for pictures, and uploading the finished materials to the KMH cloud. Subtitles went up separately as TXT files, and the written interviews were all neatly stored away. It was a very admin-heavy day, but in a satisfying way.
And then, after work, I surprised Sebbe and Angelo at work with Fika!
After that it was date night again — this time at a ramen place, which was absolutely delicious and the perfect way to end a productive day.
Friday was mainly about the international mail, though there wasn’t too much to do, which gave me a bit of breathing room. I also filled out my Europa-Pass and finished some last Erasmus paperwork, which made it feel even more real that the end was coming closer. To properly ring out my time here, Sebbe and I went back to Yasuragi for another spa trip, and spent Friday afternoon into Saturday relaxing with good food and even better company. Exactly the kind of soft landing a week like this needed.
The weekend continued in the best possible way. On Saturday evening, we went to Mall of Scandinavia to meet up with Sebbe’s best friends, which was something I had really wanted to do as a kind of goodbye hangout before leaving. We had yummy food at a buffet-style restaurant and then played billiard for an hour. Final score: Angelo and I 2 versus Sebbe and Jocke 2 — so no losers, only winners. A very respectable ending, if you ask me.
On Sunday, we spent the morning and early afternoon with Sebbe’s parents at a local flower shop with a café/restaurant. We had delicious food again, looked at what felt like a million beautiful plants, and wandered past all the pick-your-own garden beds full of vegetables, fruit, and flowers. It was such a calm, lovely ending to the week — full of sunshine, family, and the kind of summer atmosphere that makes everything feel a little softer.
