Week 5 - deadlines and students

After a week full of routines, repetition, and Fika-fueled focus, March suddenly brought a bit more chaos — in the best possible way. It was one of those weeks where the inbox never really stopped, deadlines kept creeping closer, and somehow every day still found a way to be a little different from the last.

Monday began with a small email avalanche: 108 messages waiting first thing in the morning, all from Erasmus applicants remembering to send in applications 2 days before the deadline. It was very much a “deep breath and just start somewhere” kind of day. I might have also quit that day... as an early April fools joke of course.

From there, the day turned into a long stretch of application-checking, document-double-checking, and trying to keep track of all the little moving parts that come with exchange applications. And also a Swedish-Class excurse to Midsommarkransen where we had to interview people and have a Fika to explore more of Stockholm suburbs.

Tuesday brought the application deadline, which meant even more applications, more document checks, and plenty of time spent making sure nominations were in order.

I also spent some time meeting students and teachers, helping with filling out Erasmus learning agreements, and going through the usual short-mobility paperwork. In a way, it was one of those days that feels repetitive while you’re in it, but also important in all the quiet little ways.

Wednesday was a small bonus round, because the deadline ended up being extended due to some late applications and the holidays the week before. Very practical, very Swedish, very appreciated.

Later in the day there was an infodesk meeting with Ida, Alma, and Isabella to prepare for the upcoming entry-exam week, which brought the focus from Erasmus chaos to the next big thing on the calendar.

Thursday was full of final documents from applicants, finishing the Excel sheet for the department heads, and meeting with George — the Erasmus student ambassador — about the Study-Abroad-Fika. We also talked flyer ideas, which somehow always makes a meeting feel a little more fun.

After work, I headed into Gamla Stan for a fancy medieval-style dinner date and a bit of postcard shopping, which was a very good way to end such a busy day.

By Friday, things had calmed down a little. I answered a few last emails from applicants who wanted to update their CVs or send in new YouTube links, had fika with colleagues, and helped prepare for the Antagningsveckan.

It was a much softer ending to a very full week, and honestly exactly what was needed after so much deadline energy.

On the weekend, I mostly recovered from the stress and explored a little more of Stockholm without the snow for once. Sometimes the best kind of weekend is just one where you know nothing urgent is waiting in your inbox.
